28 Years of Love
I am a lifelong musician. Some of my earliest memories are of my grandmother sitting me in her lap and teaching me my ABCs with the notes on the piano.
When I was 4 and my mother told me I had to choose between ballet and piano lessons, I screamed “PIANO!” at the top of my lungs.
I was privately trained as a classical pianist until I was 15 years old but never stopped playing and learning. I feel my private education has brought a certain degree of empathy to my lessons because I learned exactly how you’re learning! And with an extensive background in music theory, I tended to pick up other instruments (such as guitar) on my own more easily. I am forever grateful that the skills needed to teach myself multi-instrumentalism were imparted to me at a young age and I intend to give the same to my students.
Additionally, I played the flute from 6th-12th grade, touring Europe with the Houston Symphony Orchestra the summer before I turned 17.
I started performing as a singer/songwriter (solo and with bands) when I was 23— and still do from time to time!
I have also taught keyboard classes at Girls Rock Camp Houston (https://www.girlsrockhouston.org/) since 2017 and have coached both younger and older kid’s bands through the songwriting process there as well! It has provided me with invaluable teaching experience. I always say Girls Rock Camp is my favorite week of the year!
I’ve sparingly taught lessons as a labor of love, so to speak, for 10 years but I started teaching full-time at Guitar Center in September 2018, leaving on good terms in December 2020 to follow my own pursuits. It was a life-altering career change that has brought me nothing but joy and fulfillment. Turning my greatest personal devotion into a full-time service has been one of my favorite parts of discovering what my adult life will look like.
As life has ebbed and flowed, music and my love for children have stayed, steadfast and constant. They are my greatest passions and a huge part of who I am as a person.
Thank you for the opportunity to continue exercising and sharing my borderline-obsessive love for music and, once again, thank you for considering me to teach you or your littles (:
